Grand Rapid’s WOOD TV8 broadcasts first live drone video in West Michigan

Drone 8 pilot Kyle Underwood answers questions about the first federally sanctioned drone cleared for media use in West Michigan (November 4, 2015)

The drone will be used to record video and provide live aerial footage, offering viewers a one-of-a-kind take on news and weather around the viewing area.  Registered with the FAA,  the drone requires strict adherence to Federal Aviation Administration standards and guidelines.   It must be operated by a licensed pilot along with a trained observer and It also requires that flights are registered in advance and logs are provided to the FAA. Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Kyle Underwood spent weeks training in West Michigan and Colorado to become qualified to operate Drone 8.
